roughing it
How funny that I should be roughing it today here in WV. In my twenties I used to visit my friend Cathy here who built her own house in what I considered bumm f_ck nowhere in the hills in WV. It was kinda fun for a week or two to not have running water but to take buckets to the creek to fill, take solar showers or jump in the pond damn those were cold, have outdoor bathrooms with NO seats but had to squat and no electricity. She was a part of building an organic farm that today is just beyond amazing. At the time I was still smoking cigarettes and being polite and ecologically minded ha! I would sit in the gardens pulling weeds, smoking and put the butts whick would not decompose forever into my jeans pocket. Cathy is in TX now.
But that was over 25 years ago and my attitude of fun and adventure have changed. Its not fun to have to boil water to wash up, whining I want a shower to begin my day a hot shower, have a clean face and teeth. Damn I'm lazy.
Its the cold weather they say that is causing the leaks in the water system all over town. Altho it is cold, even colder weather is predicted. What will happen then? Some of us have options and can go to the next town over to a friend or relative for a shower or more. Not everyone has that option. We are being asked to check on the elderly as well. Reports telling us it hasn't been this cold in over 11 years.
Ahhh there are scarey things happening in the world. Global warming being called climate change now----Al Gore no longer a kook but a man with a message. Hope we can all in recovery also become good citizens of our community and world. We can do our part to be ready for disasters and emergencies yes but we can do our part in not adding a burden to our earth but in helping it to heal. Some days I wish I didn't care. Pam, you are so kind saying I'm a gardener. Some days I feel like such a kook myself. But then last night I was in a community 2 hours away selling them oh geez yes I am a salesman! and they were not just responding positively but downright excited about planning and preparing for their community. It was infectious.
Have to cancel our Fri nite dinner. It wouldn't be responsible. I'll of course head to the open AA meeting tonite. This has changed our move to the rail trail for a bit since we were headed there today to stay for most of the month. Delay. Time takes time. Patience is needed I hope I find mine. I can be such a moaner and complainer. But ahhh you already know that about me.
Enjoy your today. Enjoy all your blessings. There are many.

Gosh you're such a responsible adult !!! How does that kind of evolution happen to "people like us" ;)
You've really got me thinking. I'm not taking any action...but that's always what follows.
Way to go, Christine. Enjoy your weekend.
heheheeh...I'm trying really hard to visualize you "roughing it" and some how that visualization goes up in a puff of, oh, I don't know...steam? smoke? :-)
I still wish I could have gone with you one of the times to Kathy & Dallas's farm. Maybe next time I'm down we can do a road trip?
Hang in there, and if it gets really bad, head on up here !!
Love ya!
Oh I hope you keep following your calling!
Heard in a Meeting Years Ago:
"God does not call the qualified, he qualifies the called"
Tara? Don't know. The band is "The Corrs." Enjoy your weekend. Great post!
